IVORY COAST DAN PEOPLE "ZAKPAI" MASK. "Zakpai" mask from the Dan people of the Ivory Coast and Liberia. This type of mask, also known as the "fire runner" mask, is traditionally worn by young men during the dry season to protect against brush fires. It is characterized by its round eye holes, often accented with metal, and a beard made of raffia or other fibers.
